Scientific Excellence: Pillar of education

The State of Qatar attaches great importance to providing quality education for all at national, regional, and international levels, therefore, enhances its cooperation to promote the right to education everywhere in the world. 

Within the framework of the strategic goals of education and higher education, Qatar emphasised its commitment to ensure equitable, diversified, and quality education for learners, regardless of their gender and abilities. Therefore, there are several initiatives that aims at encouraging and consolidating the culture of excellence in the field of education by celebrating hard-working and outstanding students. The Scientific Excellence Award, which was launched by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in 2006, under the patronage of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is designed to encourage research, innovations and scientific solutions for problems in healthy competition and honouring distinguished students in order to encourage to do more to achieve scientific progress and to consolidate the spirit of research and dedication in order to obtain knowledge.

This is because Qatar focuses and believe that human is the foundation for society’s development which is one of the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. 

The organizing committee of the Scientific Excellence Award yesterday announced the winners of 16th edition of the Award, where the names of the 64 winners from 199 applicants were disclosed. Winners of the platinum and gold medals in each of its nine categories will be honored at the closing ceremony in early March according to CEO of the Scientific Excellence Award and Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Shared Services Affairs Ali Abdullah Al Buainain.

The award categories include the Scientific Excellence Award for primary and preparatory students, high school students, university graduates, holders of master’s and doctoral degrees, the Distinguished Teacher Award, the Distinguished School, and Distinguished Scientific Research.

Al Buainain pointed out that the Scientific Excellence Award has contributed to making excellence a strategic goal and a culture rooted in the conscience of the Qatari society, which has become an incubating environment for excellence, due to the wide educational options provided by the state for its children at home and abroad through national strategies and clear educational plans.

The Scientific Excellence Award is one of the pillars of the education system in Qatar and represents one of the tracks that primarily enhance creation and innovation for students of different educational levels from primary to university level. The ultimate aim is to enable students and education practitioners to deepen the concepts of excellence and innovation at all levels and fields.
