Curating Qatar

The launch of first global destination campaign this week by the National Tourism Council has opened a new chapter for tourism in Qatar. The idea of curating the experience for visitors depending on their preferences will create a new immersive experience for all those who are arriving in Qatar.

As a precursor to this new beginning, Qatar Tourism Authority and the Permanent Committee for Conferences were merged and a new entity National Tourism Council was formed to implement key initiatives across public and private sectors to develop tourism infrastructure and deliver incredible visitor experiences.

The new campaign with a tag line ‘Qatar. Qurated for you’ will be promoting Qatar as a complete package with something for all, which will deliver bespoke experiences to visitors, in key markets around the world.

Qatar is blessed with natural wonders like singing sand dunes and Khor Al Udeid, where desert meets the sea, one of the few such places in the world. Doha is also home to some of best art collections in the world.

Museum of Islamic Art houses rare and unique Islamic artefacts from over 1,400 years. The National Museum of Qatar is slated to open soon and it will showcase Qatar’s heritage and history in a building, which itself is an architectural delight.

The Next Chapter of the National Tourism Sector Strategy launched in 2017 set the new governance model in motion and these steps were given a major boost with the revised visitor visa policies. This  master-stroke changed the scene completely and made Qatar the most open country in the Middle East - and the eighth most open in the world - according to UNWTO rankings. This decision made Qatar very easily accessible to a large number of travellers from around the world.

In a major boost to the tourism industry two mega cruise ships, together carrying around 6,000 tourists, docked recently at the Doha Port. The fact that two mega ships docking simultaneously bringing in such huge number of visitors is a fillip to the efforts of the authorities and proves the handling capacity of the concerned departments.

Like a NTC official mentioned, Qurated is an attempt to show what Qatar offers as a destination to bring into sharp focus the essence of the Qatar experience and how it can be tailored to each visitor segments. This effort will surely propel Qatar to a favourite destination countries for many and having a well-networked top-quality airline at home will only help.
