On September 9, brutal Israeli attack on Doha violated Qatari sovereignty in a flagrant manner, an act which was unequivocally condemned by the whole world community. The attack was carried out at the time when Qatar was working hard and sincerely to mediate a peace deal in Gaza.
In response to the criminal attack by Israel, Qatar was demanding for accountability of Israel which is essential for upholding international norms, maintaining regional stability and protecting dignity and sovereignty of the country.
Qatar has long positioned itself as a diplomatic mediator in the Middle East. A nation committed to conflict resolutions through peaceful diplomacy and mediation has red lines—and a breach of sovereignty is among the most serious. The whole world termed the attack on Doha as a flagrant violation of international law.
Qatar’s response has legal measures in line with international laws and resorted to the UN Security Council which condemned Israel for the crime committed. This was a rational, diplomatically sound approach that sought accountability, not conflict. In demanding accountability, Qatar not merely defended its own interests — it defended the principle that no state, however powerful, is above international law.
Now yesterday, President of the United States of America, Donald Trump held a phone call with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, and Prime Minister of Israel, as part of US efforts to address the repercussions of the Israeli aggression that targeted a residential neighbourhood in Doha.
During the call, the Israeli Prime Minister apologized for the attack on Doha and on Qatar’s sovereignty, which resulted in the martyrdom of Qatari citizen Badr Al Dosari, pledging to not repeat any targeting of Qatari territory in the future.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed the State of Qatar’s absolute and unequivocal rejection of any infringement on its sovereignty under any circumstances, emphasizing that protecting its citizens and residents is a top priority.
The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for the assurances conveyed to safeguard the State of Qatar from being a target, and for the commitments undertaken to ensure that such violations will not be repeated.
This underscores the State of Qatar’s readiness to continue engaging in efforts to bring an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, within the framework of the U.S. President’s initiative, which reflects the consistent approach of Qatar in addressing crises through diplomatic means, and in line with its role in promoting regional security and stability.
