In a powerful and deeply moving address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering stance on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Speaking at the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, HE the Prime Minister described the gathering as a pivotal opportunity to move from rhetoric to action.

Held against the backdrop of an escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the conference comes at a critical juncture.

HE the Prime Minister condemned the ongoing Israeli military campaign, now in its second year, describing it as one of the most “brutal and heartbreaking” tragedies of our time.

He highlighted the horrors faced by over two million civilians, many of them women and children, living under siege, and questioned the morality of a world that allows hunger and violence to be used as weapons of war.

“What future can be built on the bodies of the starving? And what peace can emerge in the midst of such hunger, humiliation, and killing?” he asked, laying bare the urgency for a just and humane solution.

Qatar has consistently advocated for the protection of civilians, the cessation of hostilities, and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

HE the Prime Minister reaffirmed Doha’s rejection of double standards in international law and emphasised that no child or civilian should be judged differently based on geography or politics.

He condemned the targeting of hospitals and civilian infrastructure, calling such actions flagrant violations of humanitarian principles.

Qatar’s mediation efforts, undertaken jointly with Egypt and the United States, have already yielded tangible outcomes, including the release of detainees and the delivery of essential aid.

HE the Prime Minister noted that despite repeated setbacks, these efforts are ongoing, with the goal of achieving an immediate ceasefire and preparing the ground for reconstruction and recovery.

Reiterating Qatar’s full support for the two-state solution based on 1967 borders, HE the Prime Minister welcomed recent recognitions of Palestinian statehood and urged the international community to rally behind a unified stance.

He also stressed the importance of promoting peace narratives and combating dehumanisation as tools to build long-term reconciliation.

“This conference,” he concluded, “must be a turning point that leads to concrete commitments… paving the way for practical steps toward the implementation of the two-state solution, ensuring a just, comprehensive, and lasting settlement.”
