The tremendous, tireless and laudable efforts of frontline healthcare workers in Qatar are bearing fruits as the number of COVID-19 cured patients is on a constant rise. As many as 7,321 coronavirus infected patients recovered in just two days - May 28 and May 29 in the country. The speed and number of recoveries indicate high standards of healthcare system of the country and is also a proof of Ministry of Public Health’s hard work and dedication. The recovered patients represent both citizens and expatriates as Qatar is providing all patients with same quality of healthcare and that too on free-for-all principle.
The Ministry of Public Health yesterday (May 29) announced the registration of 1,993 new confirmed cases of coronavirus with 5,205 people having recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered people in the State of Qatar to 20,604 cases. The reason for the large increase in the number of recoveries is due to the application of the latest international recommendations regarding criteria for recovering from COVID-19 infection, which was approved by the Ministry of Public Health. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded in Qatar till now stands at 52,907 and there are 32,267 active cases under treatment. On Thursday (May 28), the Ministry of Public Health had reported 1,967 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and 2,116 new recoveries.
The Ministry had earlier announced that the majority of patients with COVID-19 in Qatar would be discharged from healthcare facilities 14 days after their first positive swab. Before that decision, many patients had remained in hospitals or isolation facilities for longer than 14 days as their discharge required them to have two negative PCR test results before leaving the facility. The new protocol, according the HMC officials, will benefit patients by enabling them to return home and back to normal life as quickly as possible. But, at the same time, the recovery of large number of COVID-19 infected patients does not mean that the people become lax in adhering to precautionary measures and neglect guidelines issued by the authorities concerned.
Rather they must strictly follow necessary precautionary measures to completely curb the coronavirus pandemic. In fact flattening the curve lies in the hands of people. The Ministry of Public Health has also reminded people, in recent days, that Qatar is still in the peak phase of the virus outbreak therefore it is necessary to adhere to, more than ever before, the preventive measures and social measures recommended.
