On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stressed that the relations between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt have returned to normal state and solid base. At a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt H E Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the two countries have decided to form a joint higher committee headed by the foreign ministers with the aim of continuous consultation and strengthening cooperation and coordination in all fields.
The announcement will definitely be welcomed as good tidings by not only the people of both countries but will be widely hailed in the Middle East region and the wider world as the region can expect renewed efforts by the two influential and powerful countries in resolving long-running disputes and conflicts in several countries.
Qatar has been exerting tremendous efforts to bring the once-strong relations between Qatar and Egypt, which was strained by the regional rift which began on June 5, 2017, to back to their normalcy. Doha never left any stone unturned in its quest for regional peace and to ensure a cordial and brotherly relations with its immediate neighbours and countries in the region since the day of Al-Ula Declaration on June 5, 2021 on the sidelines of Gulf Cooperation Council Summit in Saudi Arabia.
The signatories were quick to form various bilateral and high-level committees to iron out whatever remnants of disagreements or strains remained and bring back their long-cherished relations back to normal.
In a statement after the Al-Ula Declaration, the State of Qatar underlined that “the meeting comes in at this decisive moment as an extension of the joint work process in its Gulf, Arab and Islamic framework, and in favour of the supreme interest in a way that strengthens the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between peoples, anchoring the principles of good neighbourliness and mutual respect”.
During a meeting yesterday between Prime Minister of Egypt H E Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Minister of Finance H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, both sides agreed on investments of $5bn in the coming period in Egypt. The agreement will take the renewed relationship to new highs.
The decades-old experience and diplomacy of both countries combined will bring several breakthroughs in different regional issues, especially the Palestinian cause, conflict in Libya, crisis in Lebanon to name a few.
