Qatar has always stood firmly by Palestine and helped Palestinians diplomatically and provided them with generous aid in time of need. In recent Israeli aggression against civilians in Gaza, it was hectic diplomatic efforts of Qatar which resulted in a ceasefire.
After the ceasefire, people in Gaza were in dire need of financial assistance for the reconstruction of their destroyed properties and re-launch of their shattered businesses. Qatar again came forward to help Palestinian brothers to mitigate their sufferings caused by Israeli bombardment.
Under the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar announced $500m in support for the reconstruction of Gaza. This grant will help Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip to face the challenges posed by the recent Israeli attacks and to contribute to the reconstruction of service facilities in the Strip, especially in the health, education and electricity sectors.
Yesterday, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh expressed his thanks and appreciation to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his decision to allocate $500m in support for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, praising Doha’s continuous efforts to strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land.
Shtayyeh said that the government welcomes every effort to help the people in the Gaza Strip, whether by providing urgent humanitarian aid or rebuilding what was destroyed by the Israeli aggression. He explained that the government’s priorities are to accelerate the arrival of relief aid to the Gaza Strip, start the reconstruction process according to new mechanisms that ensure its completion within an acceptable time frame, and launch a program for economic recovery and development for the various sectors in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, despite the destruction of its offices by Israeli air strikes, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) launched a QR60m fundraising campaign for Palestine. As Phase 2 of QRCS’s emergency response to the clashes in Gaza, Al-Quds, and several cities of the West Bank, it will benefit 593,000 Palestinians.
Qatar’s generous aid to distressed people is not only limited to Palestine as it has been at the forefront to assist world nations facing different natural calamities or other challenges. Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) recently announced that it funded projects worth more than $530m during 2020 through humanitarian and development aid, which were distributed over several essential sectors, namely education, health, economic empowerment, infrastructure, and climate change.
