THE telecom sector of Qatar continues to grow and empower customers by connecting them with each other. Revenues of the telecommunications sector in Qatar for the year 2019 amounted to QR9.7bn, according to Telecommunications Market Report 2015-2019 released by the Communications Regulatory Authority. The mobile telephone penetration in Qatar reached 143 percent, and the mobile broadband penetration 129 percent, according to the report. The Telecommunications Market Report contains main indicators of the telecommunications market in Qatar for the period 2015 - 2019, showing trends, evolutions, as well as to provide guidance to stakeholders who are interested in further elaborations and analyses.
The report indicated that retail telecom sector investments for 2019 amounted to QR1.7bn. The number of fixed voice communication and fixed broadband services subscribers reached half a million, while the number of fixed broadband service subscribers reached 300,000. According to the report, the number of subscriptions to mobile services reached 3.9 million, and the number of subscriptions to mobile broadband services 3.5 million. According to another survey by the CRA, overall satisfaction with telecommunication services among businesses in Qatar is high.
The findings show strong results for the level of satisfaction across all service categories. Fixed services including Voice, Internet and Leased Lines report to have the highest levels of business consumer satisfaction with at least 90 percent of respondents either ‘extremely satisfied’ or ‘satisfied’ with the services. As per the survey, in 2019, the level of overall satisfaction with all telecommunication services has either increased or remained consistent when compared to the 2015 baseline study. The percentage of fixed broadband subscriptions for fiber connection services was 92 percent, and the rate for fixed broadband subscriptions with advertised speed (30 Mbps) reached 86 percent.
The ‘Business Consumer Satisfaction Survey 2019’ presents the detailed findings of satisfaction among business consumers in Qatar with their telecommunication service providers, Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar. The findings are based on a nationally representative survey of 1,635 businesses across a broad range of industry sectors, business sizes and geographic locations in Qatar. The study gathered the opinions from individuals within the business who are either decision makers for procurement or responsible for managing the telecommunication service needs of the business. According to the survey, business consumers in Qatar report very high satisfaction levels with all fixed services. The telecom sector is making significant contribution to the development of the economy in Qatar.
