Founded in March, 1979, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has played an important role in taking the country to new heights in the world of sports. The 43-year journey of the QOC is all about flawless planning and implementing it with sheer hardwork to achieve the desired results.

Qatar, known for hosting world class events successfully, has become the “World’s Sports Hub” and the QOC has a fair share in these achievements. Under the QOC, currently headed by H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, national athletes have also been winning laurels and displayed historic performance at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics last year, winning two gold medals and a bronze medal.

The QOC by following its vision “to become a leading nation in bringing the world together through sustainable sport development,” is successfully helping Qatar to achieve new milestones every year.

QOC’s vision requires great expertise and to acquire that, it organises different types of training programs to develop the skills of its employees and enrich their professional experiences. It includes the competence program, which aims at training national cadres of the QOC to prepare them to assume senior supervisory positions and become alternative leaders to maintain proper functioning of the QOC operations.

The “Talent Management Program”, which aims to develop a database for the second grade is also a good addition, as its goal is to ensure that the supervisory functions approved within the organisational structure of QOC are secured. To promote the concepts of excellence, to motivate its entire staff to participate in them, to encourage positive competition among them and to develop their creativity, which reflects positively on institutional performance are the other objectives of the program.

Owing to QOC’s all out support, the national athletes are also rising at the global stage with a fast pace as Qatar has produced some world class athletes like high jump superstar Mutaz Barshim, weightlifter Fares Ibrahim and hurdler Abderrahman Samba in the recent years. The country through its plan is also preparing youngsters, who are expected to win accolades for Team Al Annabi in the future.

With the work being done by the QOC to lift Qatari sports, the country, which will host the Asian Games for second time in 2030, looks destined to achieve much more glory in the future as hosts of mega events as well as through the success of its athletes.
