The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in 2006 launched the Education Excellence Award with an aim of honouring distinguished Qatari students, teachers and schools to show appreciation to their contributions and encourage further efforts.

The Award is meant to achieve excellence by honouring and celebrating outstanding achievements and contributions of Qatari students, teachers and schools, every year. The Award in its 14th edition will honour tomorrow (Monday) 71 winners, in all categories, in the presence of top government officials, parents and a number of dignitaries.  As Qatar is moving fast towards implementation of development strategy which places high priority on education, the State has also sought to develop its own educational system and upgrade it with all means and resources available to serve this end.

Thus promoting the education sector requires quantitative and qualitative approaches in order to promote quality of education and achieve perfection and excellence. Adoption of farsighted development vision necessitates putting excellence on top of educational policies, objectives, projects and programs harnessing resources to achieve its goals and long term targets.

To come to this end, there is always a need to focus on development of educational and research institutions, promote creativity, independent thinking and outstanding initiatives, and focus on scientific achievements and in this context the Education Excellence Awards have designated to recognize key categories in the educational system. The Education Excellence Awards have nine categories including award for students of primary schools, preparatory, and high school students. Further categories include awards for university graduates, PhD holders, distinguished teachers at three levels of education, as well as distinguished school and an award for scientific research.

Last month, the CEO of Education Excellence Award Dr. Hamda Hassan Al Sulaiti announced the names of the winners and the medals they will be honoured within each category, calling on all winners to “maintain their excellence and work to leave unique and distinguished marks in their future”.

This year the honouring ceremony will be organised under strict precautionary measures of COVID-19, which shows the determination and perseverance of the Qatari candidates in all categories and the winners who strived to get the honour despite the circumstances shaped by COVID -19 pandemic. As it has been also stated by the ministry’s officials, the annual awards are playing a key role in spreading the culture of creativity and improving learning outcomes. They also motivate all individuals and educational institutions to develop their performance and celebrate their efforts in educational attainment and academic study.
