The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) launched the National Cyber Security Strategy 2024-2030 in September last year. Aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030, the strategy aims to establish Qatar as a global leader in cybersecurity and a pioneer in the safe use of emerging technologies.

The strategy is founded on core values, including shared responsibility, a risk management-based approach, a result-oriented focus, protection of individuals’ personal rights, economic prosperity, alignment and cooperation.

These principles are fundamental to creating a strong national cybersecurity ecosystem. It is a roadmap to tackle emerging cybersecurity challenges also aims to establish robust frameworks for local, regional and international cooperation.

The country achieved a tier-1 ‘role-model’ classification in the Global Cybersecurity Index for 2024, demonstrating excellence in state-level cybersecurity. The accomplishment underscores the country’s unwavering commitment to creating a secure digital environment and enhancing international cooperation in tackling emerging cyber threats. Qatar signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Saturday with broad international participation. The Convention was signed on behalf of Qatar by Minister of State for International Cooperation H E Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad.

The adoption of the UN Convention against Cybercrime represents a turning point in the international system and reflects a collective will to protect the security of people in the digital space.

Qatar was among the first countries to support the development of a comprehensive agreement based on international cooperation, protecting infrastructure, and strengthening national capacities, especially in developing countries. The agreement fills a gap in the international legal system and enables countries to work together to confront cyber threats that affect human security and the stability of societies.

The protection of the digital space contributes to preventing conflicts, building trust, and supporting dialogue between countries. Qatar’s commitment to cybersecurity aligns with its role in mediation, building bridges, and promoting peaceful solutions. Just as Qatar works to resolve conflicts in the real world, it also strives to prevent conflicts in the digital realm, believing that true peace encompasses all dimensions of human life.

Qatar’s commitment to being a reliable international partner in building peace and strengthening security in both the real and digital worlds is out of its conviction that protecting human beings and preserving their dignity is the essence of security and peace.

The convention is the first UN criminal justice treaty adopted in more than 20 years, and the first global treaty on cybercrime and the exchange of electronic evidence related to serious crimes.
