Qatar’s education sector is growing. The State attaches great importance to the educational system by preparing students to contribute effectively to the knowledge-based economy. This was evident when more than 323,000 students of public and private schools and kindergartens went to their respective schools on Sunday at the beginning of a new academic year.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, in a tweet, said: “I congratulate all students on the occasion of the beginning of new academic year 2019-2020, wishing them more excellence, success and progress. All appreciation to the efforts made by the administrative and educational staff, Asking Allah Almighty for all of them success in the renaissance process of our precious state. ‘With Education We build Qatar’.”
The Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi praised the unlimited support provided by the State to education and the educational system in the country and reviewed the objectives of the new school year. The Minister stressed that developing the capability of students remain the paramount goal of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and that the ultimate goal is a successful student capable of his, her skills.
The Minister praised the role played by teachers and school leaders and said: “They represent the heart and soul of the educational process. They are entrusted to students, so their appreciation, empowerment and preservation of their prestige is a duty, stressing that the leaders of the school are the mind of the educational process and their role is greater and deeper than school management from an administrative perspective, and they are also the link between parents and teachers.” The Minister also noted the important role parents and family play in the success of the educational system in Qatar.
Qatar currently has seven national higher education institutions, namely: Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the State Institute for Graduate Studies, Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College, Police College, the Community College of Qatar, and Qatar Aeronautical College. There also are seven American universities, eight British institutions, two French universities, two Canadian institutions, one Dutch university and one Spanish college, one virtual university in cooperation with Aspire and Aspetar. “There are plans to open a German university alongside the Arab and Asian universities,” the Minister said.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Ibrahim bin Salih Al Nuaimi, reviewed the framework of educational change in order to develop the society and prepare citizens for jobs and careers while preserving cultural heritage and social customs.
Qatar is taking care of its talented youth and knows that they are valuable treasures and that their capabilities must be developed.
