Under the generous support and wise guidance of Qatar’s leadership, Qatar University is fast becoming a centre of educational excellence in the region. With every passing day, Qatar University is establishing itself as a beacon of light in education and research.

Since its establishment in 1973, Qatar University has become an esteemed seat of knowledge and learning in the Middle East. Apart from university management’s whole-hearted efforts to make the institute a global beacon of light, the achievements of the university completely reflect Qatar’s leadership’s vision of making development through investing in country’s human resource.

The statistics recently presented at the Annual Research Forum and Exhibition 2019 of Qatar University (QU) show that QU research output has grown by about six times during the period from 2010 to last year, and the proportion of publishing in the top ten scientific journals in the world also increased from 15.9 percent to 40.8 percent during the same period.

The Annual Research Forum & Exhibition 2019, held under the theme “Research Transformation through the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Challenges and Social Innovations”, is a meeting point for students, researchers and academics from the University’s 10 colleges, centers and institutes; including partners and stakeholders, to assess and review the institution’s research enterprise.

QU President Dr Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham said the forum represents a platform to unveil the scientific outcome and research output in a university that strives to strengthen its global standing locally, regionally and internationally in the framework of achieving its vision of Qatar University.

QU President further said the number of research publications in the university rose from 235 publications in 2010 to 1560 publications last year, an increase of more than six times.

Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Prof. Mariam Al Ali Al Maadeed said scientific excellence is one of the main objectives of QU’s strategy 2018-2022. Al Maadeed presented the most important statistics that reflect the university’s development at the research and academic levels, including the number of colleges increasing to ten after the announcement of opening the faculty of dentistry next fall, and the number of students increasing to more than 20,000 students with 65 percent being Qatari. In addition to opening nearly 18 research centers to date and launching 54 postgraduate programs in multiple disciplines and fields.

In December last year, Qatar University (QU) was recognised in Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, placing 201–250 in the Computer Science subject for the second year and 176–200 in the Engineering & Technology subject for the year 2019. QU improved in its computer science ranking from 2018, where the university previously placed 251-300.
