Web Summit Qatar, one of the most anticipated events in 2024, has brought the world’s foremost entrepreneurs, investors, experts and tech enthusiasts and offer an unparalleled experience of collaboration.
Hosting Web Summit comes in line with Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy, which aims to launch initiatives to enhance the tech ecosystem, incentivise the development of advanced technologies and boost ICT capacity building, all toward supporting economic diversification and the realisation of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Web Summit Qatar has brought the Middle Eastern, South Asian and African markets together in addition to the large number of startups and investors who repeatedly take part in the Web Summit. The Web Summit is the largest annual technology conference globally, bringing together tech-related entrepreneurs, investors, startups, and experts.
The Summit features the latest trends in technology and innovation while offering networking and collaboration opportunities among global attendees. The event is attracting the largest and most diverse cohort of startups to ever gather in the region, with more than 1,000 startups from 118 countries, who will connect with over 500 investors and partners hailing from countries such as Qatar, the US, Egypt, Brazil, Italy, Nigeria, the UK, India, and beyond.
In fact, of those startups 10 percent will be attending from Qatar, 30 percent are women-founded, 10 percent are what considered to impact startups and 50 percent will be attending from the broader Middle East region. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has announced $1 billion fund to foster local and regional entrepreneurs during the Web Summit Qatar 2024 opening yesterday.
Speaking at the opening night of Web Summit Qatar the Prime Minister said, “Based on the directives of the guidance of H H the Amir and given His Highness’s vision to the development and diversified economy capable of sustainability – meeting the needs of its whole people and securing high standards of living, I am pleased to announce a $1 billion Qatar Investment Authority investment in mutual capital funds to support local and regional entrepreneurs.”
Web Summit Qatar represents a new opportunity to develop an already fast-growing tech scene in the region. Web Summit CEO Katherine Maher said, “Over the past few years, we began noticing more energy from the region, a growing presence from the Middle East at our events.”
