The scenes of Israeli settlers storming the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque have become a daily recurrence due to the absence of a legal or moral deterrent to extremist Jewish groups. Yesterday, dozens of settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque entering from the Mughrabi Gate, which is said to be the heavily guarded by the Israeli occupation forces. The settlers carried out provocative tours in the blessed mosque courtyards in order to ignite a new crisis, fuel the already tense situation in the occupied Palestinian lands.
The Israeli settlers do not listen or pay any attention to calls or pleas coming from across the world, to stop these provocative acts. The Israeli government bears the responsibility to protect Islamic and Christian holy sites but it is also behaving in the same manner. This would not have happened without the consent of the Israeli governments as it allowed them to desecrate the sacred places and engage in such provocative actions.
It has been observed that since 2003, the Israeli occupation forces are allowing the settlers to storm the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque through the same gate of Mughrabi.
The Islamic Endowment Department in Jerusalem has repeatedly called to prevent such incursions and provocations, but the occupation police did not respond to these calls. Everyone knows very well that such calls will not be answered and met with disregard as the Israel enjoys since its establishment unlimited protection and immunity from legal deterrent or even nominal accountability for what it is doing against the Palestinians.
The Israeli forces and police, who are supposed to provide protection for these holy sites, are the ones who open gunfire and shoot dead unarmed Palestinians, while keeping thousand of some others in prisons for decades without trials.
This is what was reiterated by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday in statement that the crimes of the occupation and settlers against the Palestinian people are increasing on a daily basis amid unjustified international disregard.
The international community, which gives a deaf ear to the suffering of the Palestinian people, watches on a daily basis the demolition of homes and uprooting process of Palestinians from their homeland, in order to let Israelis swallow and steal more land and allocate it for the benefit of settlements.
The Ministry while condemning the continuing crimes of the occupation forces and settlers, stressed the importance of the investigation committee formed by the Human Rights Council and the immediate start of its work to keep pace with, document and submit official reports on these daily violations, and to adopt those reports in the investigations expected to be launched by the International Criminal Court.
