Cementing ties to new strengths

The State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany enjoy strong, well-established and deep-rooted friendship and partnership thanks to decades-long economic, political and diplomatic ties based on mutual trust and common interests which have left a good impact on the cooperation of the two countries in different fields.

There is constant dialogue and permanent consultation between the two countries at different levels which is further enhanced through exchange of high level diplomatic visits and coordination on regional and international issues. The political will of the two countries has made the relations witness significant growth over the past years, and nowadays cover a wide range of areas including economy, science, education, culture, health, transport, infrastructure, sport, development and energy. These areas will remain important for further enhancing the relations of the two countries. 

The current visit of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany H E Olaf Scholz reflects the good ties between the two countries and the keenness of the leadership to develop the bilateral cooperation and partnership to new horizons in various fields. 

Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will meet today with Chancellor Scholz. Such high-level visits serve the common interests of the two countries and push cooperation towards wider prospects in the future, especially in light of the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries and the momentum that has been reflected in the high-level visits between officials of the two states. 

During the visit, it is expected that the two leaders will discuss relations and ways of bolstering them at all levels, in addition to the most prominent regional and international issues of common concern.

The volume of trade between the two sides is continuously increasing and it exceeded $3bn last year, and that nearly 300 German companies are contributing to the development of the Qatari economy in various fields, as Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani stated yesterday.  Qatar is also one of the largest foreign investors in Germany and has significant holdings in companies including Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank, Siemens and Hapag-Lloyd. 

The energy partnership between Qatar and Germany will support the high-level dialogue on various energy topics, build bridges between the two countries and bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors. Germany is a strategic partner of Qatar and an important destination for Qatari investments in vital projects in the automotive, information technology and banking sectors.
