Setting new standards

Qatar continues to support development plans and enhance the competitiveness of national products in the local, regional and global markets. The launch of Qatar Quality Mark by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani is evidence to that.
The Qatar Quality Mark, a badge that is granted by Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology, aims to support the national production, development plans and consumer protection. It confirms the keenness of the government to enable the consumer obtain the best local product that competes with the their global counterparts. The Quality Mark will also push companies in Qatar to produce their products maintaining international specifications.
Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari said that launching the Quality Mark is an important step towards promoting the concept of quality and conforming to the specifications approved in the country, in order to support the national industry, enhance the production and export capacity of private sector companies and establish competitiveness of their products at all levels. 
Granting of the Quality Mark to any company is the best evidence of the efficiency of the quality system and it supports the ability of the companies to continue their efforts to upgrade their products in accordance with the specifications and standards set in the country.
The Quality Mark has many advantages as it contributes to gaining the trust of customers and increases the products’ value and opportunities for competition in the local and foreign markets. The Quality Mark is an optional mark placed on the product as evidence of its conformity with the approved national standards and that it has been examined and tested by an internationally recognized “certified laboratory”. 
It is a badge that is granted by the Qatar Standards to indicate the quality control mechanism in the facility. In order to obtain the mark, the facility must fulfil a number of conditions and standards stipulated in the “Qatar Quality Mark” regulation adopted from the international requirements and regulations for granting the Quality Mark. 
It is noteworthy that Al Qataria for Production of Reinforcing Steel was the first facility to obtain the Qatari Quality Mark for its products after it fulfilled all the necessary requirements. H E the Minister praised the efforts of the Qatar General Organization For Standardization in supporting and developing national institutions and establishments and encourage them to apply national standards and adopt best international practices in their products.
