Showing solidarity with Qatar and condemning the Iranian attack on Al-Udeid Air Base, many world leaders called Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani yesterday. H M Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of the Sultanate of Oman, President of the United Arab Emirates H H Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and President of the United States of America H E Donald Trump were among the leaders who spoke with H H the Amir expressing their strong condemnation of the Iranian attack on Al-Udeid Air Base, which they said constitutes a flagrant violation of the State of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the UN Charter. They all stressed their firm rejection of any aggression that threatens the security and safety of the State of Qatar and undermines the security and stability of the region.
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani also yesterday strongly condemned the missile attack by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, calling it “an unacceptable act that violates Qatar’s policy of good neighbourliness.” He emphasised that “Qatar denounces such behaviour by a neighbouring country with which Qatar has relied on a policy of good neighbourliness and transparency.”
He revealed that Qatar was “surprised” by the Iranian strike, despite its diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, and praised Qatar’s Armed Forces under H H the Amir for “a heroic act in repelling these attacks,” with all missiles intercepted except one that fell harmlessly.
Reaffirming Qatar’s peaceful intentions, he stated, “Qatar prefers diplomacy and wisdom and prioritises the public interest of the region above all else.” He expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown by GCC and other friendly states.
Qatar has been at the forefront of the diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict in Gaza. From day one Qatar has sought to prevent the escalation and stop the bombing of the people of Gaza. Qatar has taken a very active role along with Egypt and the United States in pursuit of a lasting ceasefire and humanitarian relief for civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Qatar steadfastly remains committed to diplomacy and peace. Qatar does not adopt an escalatory policy and has always stood for peace and mutual respect among all states.
