THE speech of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the start of holy month of Ramadan has undoubtedly strengthened people’s trust on Qatar’s leadership and its ability to steer the country out of any crisis.

The speech has also caused to increase belief of citizens and residents in the capability of country’s healthcare infrastructure to defeat the challenge of COVID-19.  “The State has been keen on providing all the necessities for individual prevention in the markets. New factories have been established to provide some of these necessities. We have strengthened the necessary medical staff and equipment, and established field hospitals that can accommodate thousands of people, hopefully we never need to use them,” H H the Amir said.

In the speech, H H the Amir also took the morale of healthcare professionals to new heights.  “This is an occasion to thank on your behalf and myself, the medical staff members, citizens and residents, who work with devotion and dedication on the frontline against the pandemic, as well as the police, the security authorities, the administrative bodies, all staff in the teams of the crisis, and workers in the vital services of the State and economic sectors, which are indispensable even during these circumstances. We also commend the tens of thousands of volunteers who have taken the initiative to assist the State’s bodies and provide necessary help to those in need,” H H the Amir said.

The speech is also likely to create more sense of responsibility among people of the country to strictly adhere to precautionary measures and guidelines announced by the State to counter the spread of pandemic.

H H the Amir also emphasized the need of international cooperation and collaboration to tackle this unprecedented challenge. “On this occasion, I ask the heads of state in the world, especially, the major industrialized countries, and the relevant international organizations, to cooperate, not to compete, in the field of vaccines and cures production,” H H the Amir said.

H H the Amir also stressed on the diversification of Qatar’s economy to make it more vibrant and resilient. “Our economy should not stay hostage to fluctuations in energy prices, and I have directed the Council of Ministers to undertake radical reforms to liberalize our economies and limit the impact of such changes on it in the future. This issue is not new, we have discussed it over and over. Now is the time for action,” H H the Amir said.
