The pace of development works, quality of executed and under-construction projects and the ambitious plans of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), all reflect at the one hand dedicated commitment of the Authority with the State and on the other herald glowing future of Qatar.
Along human resource development being carried by a number of state institutions particularly through a number of initiatives launched by Qatar Foundation and its subsidiaries, Ashghal is executing infrastructure development projects efficiently within stipulated time and defined standards. The two human resource development and infrastructure development make any country great.
President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Dr Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi reviewed with the Advisory Council on Monday, the infrastructure projects being implemented and developed in the highways, local roads, asset affairs and building sectors.
Al Muhannadi said that the length of the road network increased by about three times between 2013 and 2018 compared to before 2013. He said that the volume of roadworks carried out over the past five years also increased from 1,700 km to 6,000 kilometers, while sanitation capacity doubled, rainwater drainage grew 7 times, and pedestrian trails increased 12 times during the same period.
He pointed out that the roads development projects currently include the A ring road and the passports intersection with 22 February road, Umm Al Dome Street, Muaither, Al Shafi, Al Furousiya Street, Al Maadeed Street and other projects inside and outside Doha. He noted that next year will see the completion of about 95 percent of the road network, which reflects the outstanding performance and work of all state institutions.
Al Muhannadi explained that for the new citizens’ land projects, the implementation plan targets 10,400 land plots in which infrastructure is available for the period from 2017 to 2021, adding that by the end of 2024, the number of land plots used by the citizens will be 3 times more than the infrastructure used in 2013, in order to achieve the well-being of the Qatari citizen. Recently, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) also signed four new construction contracts for the Infrastructure Development Project for Citizens’ Sub-Divisions in Al Wukair South at a total value of QR1.5bn which will serve 3,508 residential plots.
The Project is scheduled to commence this month and is due to be completed by Q2 of 2020. It will provide an integrated infrastructure for the south of Al Wukair and will also provide a total of 172km of internal and external roads, and 27 intersections to connect Al Wukair South with the surrounding main roads.
