Qatar’s strong ICT sector

Qatar’s robust Information and Communications Tech-nology (ICT) sector is playing a crucial role in country’s growth and economic diversification. The country has established a very strong communication infrastructure that is helping private companies and other stake-holders.

Helped by the initiatives taken by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the e-commerce is growing rapidly in the country. The ministry has held a series of webinars on e-com-merce.

The ministry has so far organized seven webinars in both Arabic and English from the series of e-commerce webinars. The total number of attendees in the previous eCommerce seminars organized by the ministry in both Arabic and English has so far reached 1,374 participants. The ministry has held several panel discussions that featured Small and Medium Enterprises owners such as Mersal, Jazp, City Centre Electronic Services, and Buono, who shared their success stories in e-com-merce in Qatar.

The webinars were delivered in the presence of a group of speakers with more than 15 years of expe-rience in the fields of digital development and e-com-merce and shared their experiences and knowledge with the attendees and answered their questions about e-commerce and the ‘Theqa’ program.

The webinars highlighted the importance of the ‘Theqa’ program to e-traders and online shoppers, and its benefits in promoting the growth of e-commerce, raising credibility and trust in the Qatar e-market, besides, familiarizing the attendees with the principal objectives of the ‘Theqa’ program and how to register for the first national Trustmark of e-commerce in Qatar.

Theqa trustmark is first of its kind that is launched by Qatar to empower or enhance the e-commerce industry.

There is no fee associated with the process of getting the trustmark, the only criteria is to meet the requirements outlined to the guidelines from the gov-ernment.

Theqa aims to empower consumers and business.The interest from the local community to buy from local merchants or e-merchants has increased in the last few years because of the new initiatives that have come in through MCIT and the entire fraternity.

The e-commerce market is growing at the rate of 25 to 35 percent annually in Mena regionThe MCIT is supporting the e-merchants as well as the buyers to increase their confidence to bring in more credibility to this entire e-business platform which is all the stakeholders involved in the business that is vendors, suppliers, e-merchants and the customers
