Beacon of knowledge

Education is the cornerstone for development in any society and quality education can transform lives. Qatar embarked on this journey more than two decades ago when Qatar Foundation – a beacon of knowledge – made high-end education accessible to all.

In its decades-old journey of providing people with quality education, it has never stopped to innovate and transform. Setting up branches of top international universities inside one campus gave Education City a unique appeal, which is not found in many parts of the world.

This is one big investment Qatar made for the future generation. A sure-shot investment, which has the power to transform not only Qatar, but also the region, in the decades to come as Doha moves towards a knowledge-based economy.

For such an economy to prosper, the growth driver has to be people, who are qualified to lead and innovate. For this, you need to start young and instil a process, which appreciates innovation, technology, research and a never-ending quest for learning. QF is doing this through their institutes that caters to preschool to postgraduate studies to cutting-edge researches all under one umbrella.

Another very important part of QF’s journey of educational excellence is how it has managed to empower women in Qatar and around the region by making high-quality education easily accessible.

This is reflected in the fact that the number of female students enrolled in Texas A&M University at Qatar has reached an all-time high of almost 50 percent, while overall female enrolment at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar stands at 63 per cent. Across QF, 40 percent of the organization’s leadership is female. This will help more women to join the workforce and eventually become part of the decision making conversations.

H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of QF, said recently in one of her interactions in US that “we have created a multidisciplinary, cross-cultural educational and research environment.

This environment is built on equality of opportunity, and equipping young people with the skills that enable them to address national and global challenges and make a positive impact on the world.”

This positive impact was what the Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Chairperson of QF H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser thought of when they conceived a plan for the future development of their country by setting up Qatar Foundation.
