Hamad International Airport (HIA) is a marvel of aviation industry and positioned itself as a leading hub worldwide. It’s always in the forefront of technological and environmental upgradation.
So it’s natural for the global airport to win accolades in the international arena. After winning several awards since its inception, the airport is going strong in adding new awards and facilities alike.
It’s a known fact that HIA is a state-of-the-art airport with a strong focus on technology-enabled innovation.
As travellers who passed through HIA, we all experienced the best services and world-class facilities available. It has also proved well beyond doubt its consistency in introducing the technological advancements is best in the world. It’s also an incredible achievement on part of HIA to welcome a total of 9.68 million passengers and handling 57,031 aircraft movements in the third quarter of 2018, making this the busiest quarter of the year so far. HIA has also handled 538,551 tonnes of cargo in the third quarter of this year. The third quarter has also shown a 10.6% increase in passenger traffic in comparison to the third quarter of 2017, with August being the busiest month of the year so far.
HIA has achieved all these by its efforts towards investing in facilities, services, staff and the newest technologies to provide a world-class passenger experience to its travellers.
HIA is also known for its commitment in achieving lower and more efficient greenhouse gas emissions to help tackle climate change, reduce, re-use and recycle waste, manage noise and control emissions to air and water to reduce impact on the environment.
For that purpose it has implemented the IATA’s Simplified Invoicing and Settlement (SIS) platform. HIA’s migration to the SIS platform sets to adhere to the latest invoice data standards for the aviation industry and will see a significant reduction of manual labour and paper-driven activities such as invoicing and dispute handling as well as delivering tangible financial benefits to the industry.
HIA’s next step is to integrate full automation of the billing and settlement system through the IATA Clearing House (ICH) which will help in providing settlement services for the airport and offers protection in the event of a payment default and/or bankruptcy.
With this kind of innovations and positive moves, HIA is always judged as the best airport in the region as well as in the world. HIA is a candidate for the “World’s Best Airport 2019” awards by Skytrax. Earlier this year, HIA was ranked the 5th Best Airport in the World at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2018. Skytrax has also recognised the best-in-class service by presenting it with the ‘five-star’ airport status. HIA has also been honoured as a nominated winner for ‘Service Delivery Measurement’ in the ‘Smart Transport Solution of the Year’ category at the prestigious Qatar IT Business Awards 2018.
All these awards bear HIA’s testament to the commitment to excellence and its customer-first approach.
