The Holy Month of Ramadan is witnessing multiple events as country’s sports season nears the end. Several Amir Cup titles in different competitions were decided in the first three weeks of Ramadan, while many other events are being organised by the authorities to engage the athletes in sports activities.

Al Sadd emerged as the Amir Cup Basketball champions after they defeated Al Arabi in an exciting final at the Al Gharafa Sports Club Hall last week, while Qatar Sports Club maintained their domination in the Amir Cup Table Tennis Tournament, winning the title for a fifth time in a row. They defeated Al Sadd in the final at Abdullah Bin Suhaim Hall at Qatar Sports Club.

Also last week, Police were crowned H H The Amir’s Volleyball Cup champions after their hard-fought victory over Al Arabi in the final at Women’s Indoor Hall at Aspire Zone. Al Duhail also sealed a title when they beat Al Wakrah to win the Qatar Handball League trophy with a round to spare.

Besides the events which are part of Qatar’s annual sports calendar, many competitions are being organised by the sports authorities during the Holy Month. The most successful among them was the 2022 Nishan Vodafone Ramadan Tournament, which was participated among 500 competitors in both the amateur and professional categories at the Lusail International Shooting Complex.

This community event was organised under the patronage of the Qatar Olympic Committee President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. The organisers achieved their target of discovering the talent as many contestants showed outstanding performance throughout the event.

The Al Kass Padel Tournament Ooredoo 2022, which concluded last week, also attracted huge interest as a total of 120 teams competed in the tournament, which was held under the patronage of CEO of Qatar Media Corporation H E Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani bin Khalid Al Thani. While many community events are still underway, football fans are following their respective clubs as Al Sadd, Al Duhail, Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa are competing in the group stage of the AFC Champions League in Saudi Arabia.

Qatar’s sports authorities have done well by organising these events as experts say such activities during the Holy Month have many health benefits. These include activating oxidation processes and energy production, increasing the efficiency of the muscles of the body, increasing the efficiency of the circulatory system and strengthening the immune system.
