Climate change is a global challenge and confronting it effectively is a duty of all the States and societies. The State of Qatar through wholehearted approach is contributing to confront this challenge through a number of local initiatives and supporting global programmes.
The sustainability is the key in all development works being carried out in the country and Qatar is also helping other nations for environmentally-friendly projects. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, while speaking at the 2021 Raisina Dialogue, said that the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) focuses heavily on the impact of investment as it is part of the One Planet initiative.
He said that an initiative the State of Qatar is looking at is in Africa, where it is investing in more than 10 countries with a European partner to build new, green power plant that will focus on renewable sources such as wind and solar.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister had also stressed that there was big focus to invest locally and internationally in those field, highlighting that Qatar built a very large solar power plant to generate its own power. Now, Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, has affirmed that the State of Qatar is pursuing a complete governmental approach to confront the factors of climate change in all its aspects, referring to the states efforts at home and abroad to ensure access to a more sustainable world.
This came in the speech of the Minister of Municipality and Environment as a keynote speaker during the virtual sub-session on adaptation and recovery, which was held on the sidelines of the leaders’ summit on climate through video conference technology. He said that the State of Qatar is deeply committed to dealing with the issue of climate change, noting that preserving and developing the environment is one of the four main pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030, which forms the basis for the state’s plans for responsible development.
Meanwhile Qatar yesterday joined other nations to form ‘Net Zero Producers Forum’. Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum (QP), H E Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, announced that Qatar has joined a group of signatory nations including Canada, Norway, Saudi Arabia, and the United States in forming the ‘Net Zero Producers Forum’, which seeks to develop pragmatic net zero emission strategies.
