Training future police officers

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani graced the graduation ceremony of the third batch of Qatar’s Police College on Saturday. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani as well as interior ministers of Oman and Jordan were also in attendance. H H the Amir inspected the parade and honoured the seven outstanding graduates. 

A total of 112 students from the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Palestine and the Republic of Yemen are graduating from the Police College this year. 

Director-General of the Police College Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Muhana Al Marri, who welcomed the Amir and other dignitaries to the college, recalled a saying by the Amir that human development is one of the most important pillars of Qatar’s vision, and the Qatari citizen remains the main focus of government’s development agenda, by providing the best levels of education that guaranteeing citizens’ advancement and progress. 

He said the Police College’s modern curricula keeps pace with international standards, including science and knowledge in the policing and legal fields.

Qatar’s Police College is one of the best police training institutes in the world, and is producing highly-skilled officers, enabling them to professionally implement security tasks with determination and courage, while adhering to the Arab and Islamic traditions and values. It has deepened national identity and promoted noble values in the hearts of the youth who have joined the college. The college also focuses on developing leadership skills, enhancing students’ confidence, and training them in many athletic and military skills. 

The new police graduates have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Police Sciences after completing a 4-year study programme at the college, learning the best police and legal sciences and undergoing military and sports training. They have also been equipped to deal with new security challenges brought by new technology, including cybercrime and transnational crime. They have obtained the knowledge and crucial skills required in modern day policing. 

Qatar’s police are one of the most advanced and professional forces in the world, a fact which has contributed to the country being consistently ranked among the safest in the world. 

The Police College’s former graduates have shown a high level of discipline, commitment, and professionalism among the police and security institutions of the country, and the new graduates will certainly prove an asset in their respective institutions and countries and further strengthen their forces.
