Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar’s world-class airport, has completed another successful quarter of 2018. The Airport served a total of 8.72 million passengers in the first quarter. Qatar’s award-winning airport handled 52,250 aircraft movements and 514,299 tonnes of cargo in total from January to March 2018.
These numbers demonstrate the strength of aviation sector of Qatar and shows that the unjust siege imposed by the blockading countries has failed having any impact on the country.
According to the figures released last week, HIA served 3 million passengers in January, 2.7 million in February and 3 million in March, which includes passengers arriving, departing and transferring through Qatars airport.
The airport also handled 17,937 aircraft movements in January, 16,204 movements in February and 18,109 movements in March, which includes total number of aircraft take-offs and landings at the airport.
HIA has also handled 514,299 tonnes of cargo in the first quarter of 2018, with 168,156 tonnes in January, 160,776 tonnes in February and 185,366 tonnes in March, which signifies a marked increase from the previous year.
The success story of Hamad International Airport will continue going forward as Airport’s 2018 summer schedule is slated to be busy with many of its foreign airlines increasing their weekly flights to Doha. HIA will also be serving approximately 15 new destinations this coming summer.
The airport, during the first quarter, also received two ISO certifications; ISO/IEC 20000 which is the highest global standard for IT Service Management as well as ISO 55001:2014 certification which is the international standard for asset management, making Qatars airport the first in the Middle East to achieve this accreditation from the British Standards Institution.
HIA also won multiple awards and accolades at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2018 held in March 2018. The airport ranked the fifth Best Airport in the World, moving up one place from last year. HIA was also awarded the title of Best Airport in the Middle East for the fourth year in a row and Best Staff Service in the Middle East for the third year in a row.
HIA was recognized as the fourth Best Airport for Shopping’, moving up one position from the previous year and fifth Best Airport for Dining for the second consecutive year.
