The sustainable development is key to a nation’s growth. Conservation of nature is the most important thing in this direction. And Qatar is always at the leading position when it comes to sustainable development and conservation of nature.
One of the examples of the sustainable development is the various activities done by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) represented by the National Program for the Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed).
Kahramaa targets to reduce carbon emission by seven percent by 2022. The Tarsheed programme helped reduce over 10.6 million carbon emission since its launch in 2012 till 2017. Under a new initiative, the residents will be encouraged to reuse the discarded tyres for decoration, plantation and sport activities to serve the purpose of Tarhseed.
Kahramaa organised a full-day event recently at the Kahramaa Awareness Park (KAP) to create awareness among environmentally-friendly communities and stakeholders about the recycling of vehicle tyres, its mechanism, process, health hazard, environmental concerns among others.
The novel initiative was attended by over 700 children from government and private schools. It aims at reusing the discarded tyres as art works for decoration, planting flowers and vegetables and in sport activities, thus saving the nature.
The Kahramaa Awareness Park is one of the destinations for all kind of such groups who have environment- related concerns as it offers the latest educational and awareness methodology by combining education and entertainment, which motivates the visitors to research, learn and to do practical implications.
Another effort by Kahramaa is planning to set up 400 electric car charging stations by the end of 2022 to encourage the use of electric and hybrid vehicles in Qatar. As part of it Kahramaa, under Tarsheed programme, inaugurated 8th electric car charging station, at Qatar Scientific Club.
The inauguration is a continuation of the first phase of the launch of electric car charging stations in Qatar as part of the green vehicles initiative to provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations.
The ongoing nationwide campaign under Tarsheed programme is also undertaking rationalisation of the consumption of electricity and water and it has made major accomplishments. Collective efforts under the programme have brought significant results in the country.
The Tarsheed programme, in line of the Qatar Development Strategy 2018-22, has set a target to reduce per capita electricity and water consumption to 8 and 15 percent, respectively. The various initiatives helped save QR5bn over the last six years.
The coordinated efforts in the country by the various authorities show the collective vision of the country and its leadership.
