Seeing people living in harmony with themselves, with others and all sentinel beings around you is the most delicious feast for eyes one would ever get in the world. This feast is omnipresent here as the people in Qatar peacefully co-exist by being non-violent and tolerant and thus in turn celebrate a wondrous life.
The Gulf nation has got this amazing feature neither by chance nor is an overnight development but the result of the systematic functioning of the Qatari leadership with sheer confidence and absolute will power under Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for years.
The nation has been taking so many initiatives to fight crime, terrorism, corruption and all such misdeeds. Underlining its commitment in curbing crime, the statistics released by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) indicates decline in crimes in Qatar in all categories (major, minor) and the security indicators exceeding global proportions.
Statistics of the MoI for 2018 suggest that Qatar’s crime rate has declined below global average in 2018. The statistics further reveal that the total number of crimes in 2018 decreased by 2.4 percent compared with 2017 and 88.3 percent of the total crimes committed in 2018 were minor, such as cheque cases, violations, non-criminal quarrels. The MoI has succeeded in reducing the rate of major crimes in 2018 per 100,000 inhabitants from the global rate by 98.3 percent, despite the increase in population in the state last year by 3.6 percent.
Qatar’s quest for peaceful living has come out in so many instances and it actively campaigned in many regional and global platforms for peaceful living and highlighted measures to curb crime.
It was just recently, Qatar’s Attorney-General H E Dr Ali bin Fetais Al Marri signed a cooperation agreement, with 20 states and areas in the US, aimed at long-term strategic cooperation; consolidation of efforts to combat transnational criminal organisations, terrorism and corruption; and effective cooperation between law enforcement institutions. The agreement covers cooperation in confronting international conditions and challenges in the fight against organised crime.
The wise nation has learned that close coordination with UN will work as a catalyst in curbing crime and it is because of this sole reason, Qatar always calls for close coordination and cooperation by various local, regional and global organisations with UN.
At a time when global crime statistics show an upward trend, the fall in crime in Qatar and the Qatari model for combating crime gain significant attention. In fact, Qatar is showing a virtuous path to the world to be followed for a crime-free world.
