The Doha International Maritime and Defence Exhibition Conference (DIMDEX) 2022 began yesterday after four years. The highly-anticipated event is a testament to Qatar’s Armed Forces’ growing strength and regional and global interest.
Held under the theme ‘Connecting the World’s Maritime Defence and Security Community,’ several critical decision-makers from around the globe will engage in significant commercial exchange, maritime showcases and expert panel discussions that contribute to the global maritime defence and security complex.
The three-day biennial event comes as Qatar expands its military cooperation with its international partners, which has witnessed growth over the past decades. The exhibition is recognised as the industry’s must-attend event, being a dynamic platform for global exhibiting companies and stakeholders.
On the other hand, the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) brings together renowned industry experts and distinguished academics worldwide to discuss the latest industry topics, exchange thoughts and offer modern solutions. The three-day event also welcomes warships from international navies to Hamad Port, where the high-tech vessels will showcase their cutting-edge systems on board.
Chairman of DIMDEX, Staff Brigadier (Sea) Abdulbaqi Saleh Al Ansari, stressed that this year’s event would showcase the latest in marine equipment, technology, and combat systems with 46 national companies set to participate. He added that DIMDEX is different from other regional exhibitions of this nature because it is focused on maritime and technologies associated with it. He noted that this industry is getting a lot of attention, especially in this region, and DIMDEX organizers are not considering expanding to cover the whole military sphere.
Qatar’s participation alongside the over 200 defence manufacturers from more than 50 countries is highlighted by the Amiri Air Force, the Amiri Naval Force, Ministry of Interior and the Coasts and Borders Directorate, and Barzan Holdings.
In a statement, H E Director of Public Security Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi said that DIMDEX is a great opportunity for the Ministry of Interior to participate in it through the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security to display the latest equipment and technologies, as well as learn about maritime security techniques.
DIMDEX has grown to become a significant event in the defence sector, and with the patronage of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani further solidifies the importance of this exhibition to Qatar and the region.
