Qatar University (QU) continues to serve as Qatar’s primary institution of higher education and has become a beacon of academic and research excellence in the region. Qatar University has established itself as a center of excellence in education and research and the impressive pace of growth of the higher education institute of Qatar has also won due recognition in the world.
Apart from university management’s whole-hearted efforts to make the institute a global beacon of light, successes and achievements of the university completely reflect Qatar’s leadership’s vision of making development through investing in the country’s human resource.
Qatar University has an extraordinary group of prestigious faculty from carefully-selected international experts to Qatar’s own top national minds. A study conducted by Stanford University (USA) showed the top two percent of the world’s most-cited scientists during 2020 and the top two percent of the world’s most-cited scientists for career-long citation. In this study, the first list included 80 scientists from Qatar University, and the second list included 39 scientists. A noticeable increase in the list of scientists from Qatar University is recorded in this year’s study, with an increase of almost 20 percent in the first list and nearly 30 percent in the second list.
The top two percent list includes more than 100,000 among millions of researchers, selected by combining several metrics for a systematic ranking using the data that was extracted from Scopus until August 1, 2021.
On this achievement, Prof. Mariam Al Maadeed, Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University, said: “Qatar University is proud of having such distinguished scientists within its campus. Having this number of scientists from Qatar University in this list proves that the University is achieving success in preparing highly-skilled personnel, producing high-quality research, and seeking leadership in research and education.”
Recently, students from the Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QU-YSC) succeeded in research and innovation, by winning several awards at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition 2021 (ITEX) in Malaysia. Qatar University’s ‘Empower Generation Consortium Project’ (EGC) also recently won third place in the Life Sciences category at QS-Wharton Reimagine Education Awards or the ‘Oscars’ of Education.
