QATAR has been a vociferous supporter and strong, learned advocate for the Palestinian people and their cause for decades. The country has used its time and resources for the support of the brotherly palesitinian people.
The Palestinian people in general and their leaders in particular always acknowledged Qatar’s help and support and they see Qatar as a true friend who will always be there when in need. Chairman of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh, while talking the Qatari media, praised Qatar’s contributions to the Palestinian cause. He told the press that the Palestinian people recognise the supportive position of Qatar, especially during the crises experienced in the past years stressing the Qatari diplomacy in the supportive Arab and Islamic positions for the Palestinian cause as it is the first country to support the Palestinian people internally and externally.
He thankfully remembered that the financial help provided by Qatar over the past years for Palestine still continues adding that the financial support amo0unted to $180m in the past year alone, which helped the construction of 10,000 homes that were destroyed in wars in Gaza.
Whenever the Palestinians were in need, Qatar was there with support. On March 22 this year, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani directed to provide $150m over a period of six months in order to complement the efforts of the Qatar to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people and in support of the United Nations relief and humanitarian programmes in Gaza Strip. It also included assistance to combat COVID-19 for the besieged people in Gaza Strip.
Qatar had funded the expenses of 100 medical professionals in April and in the same month the country provided aid to Palestinians quarantined in Gaza and QRCS provided medical equipment to detect coronavirus cases in Gaza. Qatar has made it equally important to raise the issue of the sufferings of the besieged people in in international forums, even during this trying times of pandemic.
In June Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, while addressing the virtual ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee to coordinate international assistance to the Palestinians, said Qatar will continue to support the Palestinian people and called on the international committee to redouble their efforts to rescue the Palestinians from the occupying forces.
Every time when Qatar got a chance to speak at the UN events, Palestinian cause occupied a prominent place in those speeches. Qatar will stand by the cause until the occupied areas are liberated and the Palestinians enjoy a peaceful and dignified life as the citizens of a free country.
