Qatar announced in November 2015 at the 8th Annual Conference of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) in St Petersburg, the establishment of the ACE Award, demonstrating not only Qatar’s commitment to the prevention of corruption but also dedication to the sustainable development agenda of the United Nations. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H E Shavkat Mirziyoyev yesterday during the award ceremony praised the global efforts made by H H the Amir in the fight against corruption alongside other nations, stating that the State of Qatar has become a leading country in integrity and transparency, and its most important advocates globally.
In his speech during the award ceremony, UN Special Advocate on the Prevention of Corruption H E Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri said that the award is part of H H the Amir’s efforts in combating this dangerous scourge that threatens peace and security, which the UN and various world countries could not address. According to H E Dr. Al Marri Tashkent was chosen for the ceremony after extensive studies of the efforts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in combatting corruption at the legislative and executive levels, which led to the arrest of several corrupt people.
The award raises awareness and support for the global anti-corruption movement and has garnered international recognition and participation from across the globe. It has inspired numerous anti-corruption initiatives and partnerships around the world and contributes to capacity-building and knowledge-sharing in the fight against corruption.
Corruption cripples societies, erodes trust, and hinders progress. Only through unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability can we hope to address this malignancy and build a brighter future for all. The greater purpose of the ACE Award is not only to serve as a tool that highlights exemplary and noteworthy actions and good practices on a global scale but also to recognise, promote, collect and disseminate anti-corruption models from around the world and to raise awareness, support and solidarity to the fight against corruption.
