In a significant move and as a sign of recognition of effectiveness of dynamic foreign policy of the state, Qatar has obtained a prominent historic partnership status in one of the prestigious organisations enhancing its position towards a promising future.

On September 17, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which is an effective organisation having geopolitical weight in Asian continent and world at large, granted the status of ‘Dialogue Partner’ to the State of Qatar during the organisation’s summit in the Tajikistan capital, Dushanbe.

The decision was made in the presence of the Presidents of major states including China, Russia, Tajikistan, Iran, Mongolia and the Prime Ministers/Foreign Ministers of the rest of member states.

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed the State of Qatar as a new dialogue partner in the SCO, stressing that Moscow supports in engaging with Qatar on the organisation’s activities in different fields.

The granting of ‘Dialogue Partner’ status to the State of Qatar by an important intergovernmental organisation reflects the importance and weight of country’s diplomacy in achieving lasting peace, stability and enhancing cooperation between nations.

It also acknowledges the effectiveness of state’s diplomatic activities and its efforts for international cooperation and establishing the principle of resolving conflicts, regardless of their size and gravity, through dialogue and peaceful methods and diplomacy.

Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the People’s Republic of China, H E Mohammed Abdullah Al Duhaimi, underlined that 19 countries submitted for the status of “Dialogue Partner”. “It is a new achievement for the Qatari diplomacy and the Qatari diplomacy proved once again its entitlement to obtain this status, as only three countries (Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt) have been accepted as dialogue partners so far.”

He added that the accepting of countries to hold the “Dialogue Partner” status requires obtaining the approval of all member states, and the same applies to the transition from one capacity to another.

No doubt that the whole world recognised Qatar’s positive, effective and prominent role on the Afghanistan issue as an honest host and mediator, based on its belief on the importance of the principle of dialogue in resolving crises, Ambassador Al Duhaimi stated yesterday.

Qatar’s efforts to establish lasting peace and security will continue shining along its efforts to confront the threat of terrorism and violent extremism.

As Ambassador Al Duhaimi pointed out, the State of Qatar can contribute effectively to strengthening partnerships in various security, political, economic, social, technological, environmental, cultural and other fields among the organisation’s member states, which in most of them are compatible with Qatar Vision 2030.
