Qatar’s exemplary diplomacy gained yet another recognition and appreciation in international level recently when the country was included in the Latin American and Canadian Parliament (LACP) group as an observer member. It is a confirmation of the global confidence in the state, which enhances Qatar’s role and its international standing.

Speaker of the Shura Council H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud and President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament Elias Castillo signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which Qatar became an observer member of the Latin America n and Caribbean Parliament.

After signing the MoU H E the Speaker of the Shura Council said that selecting Qatar as an observer member in the LACP reflects the strong trust Qatar enjoys in the world and emphasises its active role in all regional and international gatherings.

Qatar is the first country in the region to be chosen in such an important parliamentary bloc, which includes representatives of the parliaments of 23 countries that represent a significant political and economic stature. As such, Qatar’s membership in this important regional system is of exceptional importance as the forum consists of deputies and representatives of peoples in these friendly countries.

Through the MoU, the two sides agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and political exchanges to boost the bonds of friendship between Qatar and Latin American and Caribbean countries in order to overcome the blockade imposed on the State of Qatar and to achieve peace among peoples.

The membership in the LACP is a slap on the face of the blockading countries, which affirms that Qatar has won the confidence of parliaments throughout the world.

Qatar’s observer status in the LACP promotes parliamentary and political cooperation between Qatar and those countries which have strong political, economic and cultural relations with Qatar and facilitates the exchange of parliamentary knowledge and experience in the legislative, supervisory and administrative fields. Qatar can also participate in the decision-making process, follow up events and coordinate with the group.

This milestone in Qatar’s international relationship reflects the success of the wise leadership’s strategy toward expanding the base of international and regional relations and the diversification of blocs and partnership with countries that respect the principles of international law and the governing norms of relations between countries.

Time and again the State of Qatar has proven that the ill-founded strategies that the blockading countries were implementing against Qatar were a futile exercise.

The blockading quartet has been employing all its energy and resources to isolate Qatar in the international arena, but thanks to the visionary leadership of the country, Qatar has been successful in carving a niche for itself in the international arena, steadily strengthening its stature in the global stage and gaining respect.
