Standing firm with Palestine

The 32nd regular session of the Arab League Council at the summit level was held yesterday in Jeddah with the participation of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. H H the Amir in a tweet expressed his hope that the results of the summit will contribute to strengthening solidarity and joint Arab action.

All Arab leaders in their speeches emphasised on forging unity to address challenges posing threats to Arab world’s stability and prosperity. All of them also emphasised on just solution of Palestinian issue.

In the ‘Jeddah Declaration’ at the conclusion of Jeddah Summit, the leaders of the Arab countries emphasised the centrality of the Palestinian cause, expressing their strong condemnation of the practices and violations that target the Palestinians and undermine efforts to establish their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The leaders also underlined the importance of strengthening joint Arab action, solidarity and cooperation, protecting the sovereignty of states and the cohesion of their institutions, and making further advancement of Arab action to keep pace with the challenges of the new era, in a way that serves the goals and aspirations for a better future for the Arab peoples and generations to come. President of Ukraine H E Volodymyr Zelenskyy also participated in the summit. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a peace initiative to Russia, and called on Arab countries to work with Kiev on the initiative directly without mediators.

Addressing the summit, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud affirmed the move to achieve the interests of the Arab peoples and preserve their rights, and not allow the region to turn into fields of conflict.

The Saudi Crown Prince also said that the Palestinian cause is at Saudi Arabia’s top priorities and is the central issue of Arabs and Muslims. He added that the Kingdom spares no effort in supporting the brotherly Palestinian people to recover their land, restore their legitimate rights.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on Arab leaders to support the implementation of the recent General Assembly resolution, and to make their case at the International Court of Justice on the legality of the Israeli occupation’s presence on Palestinian land.

King Abdullah II of Jordan stressed the importance of developing joint Arab work, adding that the Arab League’s role is essential in maximising cooperation. Iraq Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al Sudani also stressed the importance of joint Arab action to contain differences, calling on the Arab League to develop its approaches towards building an economic bloc.
