The State of Qatar and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria have enjoyed distinguished relations at various levels and in all fields since establishing diplomatic ties in 1972. The solid relations of the two countries are based on factors that unite the Qatari and Algerian peoples of Arab and Islamic brotherhood and there exist a common vision of the leadership of the two countries on many Arab and international issues.
The bilateral cooperation is witnessing a qualitative leap in different aspects thanks to the strong basis of mutual respect and continuous consultation and coordination on issues of common interest.
The current visit of President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria H E Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the State of Qatar comes within the framework of the distinguished historical relations between the two countries and the joint and continuous keenness to support and advance the bilateral cooperation towards deeper and new comprehensive horizons. The continuous consultation and coordination of the two countries have been consolidated and strengthened by exchange of visits of the leadership of the two countries at the highest levels and visits of ranking officials also confirm the two countries’ great care to support and promote the bilateral ties. The talks that will take place during the visit will contribute to the development of relations between Doha and Algiers in various fields.
Algeria will be hosting the Arab Summit which is scheduled for March 22 in Algiers, as well the State of Qatar will host the 6th summit of the heads of member states of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum that will be held in Doha this week. These upcoming scheduled summits give the visit of President Tebboune an exceptional importance representing great opportunities for further consultations, coordination between the countries as they are among the largest producers and exporters of natural gas in the world and play pivotal roles within the framework of the League of Arab States and the region.
There are many agreements, MoUs and protocols signed between Qatar and Algeria, which include cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, industry, energy, mining and investment, agriculture and tourism, health and sports, customs, maritime transport, military cooperation, as well as cover the sectors of culture, media, urban planning etc. These agreements resulted in successful partnership and establishment of Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) Company and Ooredoo Group in the telecommunications sector, which has achieved remarkable success in Algeria. The common visions, positions and firm principles towards bilateral and national interests and towards regional and international issues are aimed at enhancing peace and security and they will also continue bolstering the distinguished and historic ties of the two counties.
