Education is vital to development and Qatar has established an education system that complies with the highest standards of global educational systems. Developing the system is vital to ensuring the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030. Keeping this in realm, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education said that 14 new schools and kindergartens (KGs) will be opened in the academic year 2018-19.
In addition, it also plans to open Qatar Science and Technology School this year. Latest technologies, educational and research programs are being added in the curricula helping students to discover their creative potential and enhance scientific research skills in various disciplines.
The new schools include 11 private schools and kindergartens and three public schools which will provide more than 5,065 classrooms, bringing the number of public schools and kindergartens to 272, said Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi. The number of private schools and kindergartens reached 282, with a total enrolment of 190,644 students, he added.
The Ministry’s strategy and objectives include raising the level of performance of students and their academic achievement. The Ministry continues with the implementation of its strategy for 2017-2022, given it is the road map for developing a world class educational system.
The Under-Secretary said that the strategy focuses on providing suitable training for teachers that helps them make the vital contribution they do to society, while boosting the core values and traditions of the Qatari society at the same time. The total number of teachers in the public school system has now gone up to 13,440 while in private schools their numbers are 13,591.
In terms of higher education, Al Nuaimi noted that the presence of 24 higher education institutions in Qatar, including universities, colleges and institutes of international status in terms of academic and research programs and best practices.
He said Qatar continues to invest in the sources of its soft power and added that investment in education promotes the growth of human capital and knowledge, which leads the efforts of sustainable development in all its economic, social, environmental and cultural dimensions, and thus achieve the goals of QNV 2030, which focuses the state’s efforts on diversifying the economy.
With institutions offering various scientific and literary disciplines, granting bachelor’s, master’s and PhDs, Qatar has become an academic hub due to its international reputation, its political, economic and social stability, richness and cultural diversity.
Qatar, no doubt, is taking care of its talented youth and knows that they are valuable treasures and that their capabilities must be developed. Qatar is moving way ahead to build a modern state that encourages education for all.
