Qatar’s healthcare system is top of the world. It matches with the best in the world. It also got several accolades and praises from all over the world for its advanced systems and the care it provides to all its citizens and residents.

But Qatar never stops there as it is always in the process of moving to the next best available healthcare system in the world. Minister of Public Health H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari stressed said that the health system in Qatar is always focused on providing quality services according to international standards to meet the aspirations of the people of the country, in line with the renaissance of Qatar and its resulting increase in population.

The Minister announced a number of projects that will contribute to further development of the health system. The projects include the construction of a number of new specialised hospitals, both in the public or private health sector, in addition to the creation of new services that will further improve the existing system, which was ranked fifth best globally.

It’s all well-known fact that the country’s health sector has undergone enormous expansion in recent years and provides a full range of high-quality healthcare services to its people. Qatar is always expanding its healthcare system to meet growing patient needs. In 2018, it opened Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital and a dedicated Surgical Specialty Center. Last year also saw the official opening of the Tobacco Control Center, a new Stroke Service Unit, and the launch of a number of new services that are improving patient care. The health sector authorities such as the Ministry of Public Health, Qatar Foundation, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, and World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) jointly push all possible efforts to improve the healthcare facilities and researches in the country.

The Minister of Public Health stressed that the health sector enjoys great support from Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in order to develop a comprehensive system with high-quality services that improves the health of the Qatari society.

The number of patients who visited Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) last year was 1.7 million. The addition of specialised services in primary healthcare units will help reduce the load on HMC, which will in turn lead to less waiting times. The draft law on the new health insurance system will soon be presented to the Shura Council.

In the last three months itself, the number of beds in hospitals increased by 200. That is in addition to the 1,200 new beds added between 2016 and 2018 after the opening of eight new hospitals, with a total number of beds currently at 2,121. There are also plans to increase the number of beds in the private sector by 25 percent, while there is also a thought to convert dental services for residents who currently hold health insurance to the private sector to reduce the pressure on public dental clinics, which has seen a major developments in terms of expanding its services.
