Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will head the delegation of the State of Qatar to participate in the 32nd regular session of the Arab League Council which will kick off today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Given the importance of the Summit and its venue, H H the Amir will be accompanied by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and an official delegation.

The Summit reflects the kingdom’s commitment to reviving joint Arab action, and the leaders will work to foster unity and cooperation among member states.

The Summit is a platform where the leaders discuss common concerns, exchange viewpoints, and seek solutions to regional conflicts and crises.

In line with the conciliatory atmosphere prevailing among Arab countries and the sincere desire of the leadership to mend the differences and purify the atmosphere, the Jeddah Summit is being held with a vision to promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.

A flurry of diplomatic activities and achievements have been embarked upon in the past few months following the deadly earthquake that struck Syria and Turkiye and rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and the ceasefire in Yemen, which are developments that have shifted the political landscape of the region. In line with these, several preparatory meetings were held to ensure the success of the Summit so the outputs could meet the aspirations of the Arab people.

The timing of the Summit and the latest developments in the region would undoubtedly see the agenda comprise many hot Arab issues, especially as the region grapples with economic challenges and political crises like the civil war in Sudan, the conflict in Yemen and Libya, and the situation in Palestine and Lebanon. Many Arab countries are also witnessing many challenges while they try to rebuild and restore their institutions after years of instability. There is great hope that the two fighting parties in Sudan will reach a permanent ceasefire through their talks in Jeddah.

The Summit will also address the Palestinian cause, which remains central and paramount for the Arab nations. It is expected to reaffirm support for the Palestinian people's rights to self-determination, independence and sovereignty in their state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Jeddah Summit outcomes would be a significant milestone in the joint Arab action and will aim to bring to the fore the aspirations of Arab citizens. With expectations high, the Summit could be a new launch for collaborative Arab work to develop sustainable mechanisms to confront Arab issues.
