The cornerstone of Qatar’s active diplomacy is resolving disputes through mediation and power of dialogue; these are the best available tools to peacefully resolve political conflicts for establishing lasting peace. Qatar through its active and constructive diplomacy in the region and world has always tried to bring peace in different restive parts of the world by settling political disputes through mediation and negotiations.

Qatari mediation established peace in Darfur region of Sudan through Doha Peace Agreement and continuously playing a constructive role to end decades-old violence and unrest in Afghanistan through reconciliation.

Recently addressing a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during Second Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue held last week in Doha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, said that the Qatari diplomatic activity is ongoing through conferences and diplomatic work on major issues such as the Qatari mediation in the Darfur region of the Republic of Sudan, which is still ongoing and continuous in urging the parties to resort to the Doha Peace Agreement.

In addition, H E the Deputy Prime Minister said, Qatar is playing role in Afghan reconciliation issue where Qatar is hosting Taliban’s political office and is working with the US to achieve peace in Afghanistan, as well as the ongoing consultations with the US, alliances and friends from other countries on a number of issues related to Syria and the Middle East peace process.

H E the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that diplomacy is the choice to resolve crises and to put an end to the humanitarian suffering that people are going through, which is the common denominator between the policies of the State of Qatar and the US.

In the conference of the Association of Senates, Shura and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World which began in Rabat on Thursday, Speaker of the Shura Council, H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, said that Qatar is committed to exerting all possible efforts to contribute to achieving security and peace in the region through bringing together parties and achieving reconciliations, since its own stability and security is part of the region’s stability and security.

H E Al Mahmoud said Qatar has become the city of reconciliations and a venue for meetings of warring parties in Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Yemen and Afghanistan and has achieved many successful settlements due to its credibility, transparency and standing at the same distance from all parties.

H E Al Mahmoud highlighted Qatar’s continuous role in achieving peace in Darfur, Sudan, within the framework of Arab-African ministerial committee on conflict resolution and in close cooperation with the joint mediator of the African Union and the UN.
