National Day: A day of cohesion

December 18, 1878 is the day from which the people of Qatar derive determination, strength, renewed ambition and a constant aspiration for a better tomorrow and a brighter future. National Day is the founding day of the modern State of Qatar, and its celebration enhances the unity, values of belonging, patriotism and pride in the Qatari national identity. 

The memory of this day calls for pride in belonging to this generous land, being guided by the principles and values of the founding father and their legacy. In addition to the legacy of its rich history established by the ancestors, particularly the founder late Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani, who charted the state’s path of development, growth and prosperity. And after him next generations of the wise leadership of this country carried on this torch of continued development and prosperity.

Qatar National Day is a special opportunity to show solidarity, unity and to express the meaning of love and loyalty to our country under the wise leadership of the Amir  H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Every citizens is aware of the fact the national day is an anniversary that reminds them the  great efforts and sacrifices made by the ancestors in 1878, and before. Also, it is an opportunity to reaffirm the solid unity of the people of Qatar, deepen national belonging, and emphasize the importance of cohesion and harmony between the people and leadership. 

December 18, is and will remain the icon of unified resistance to the challenges, strengthen solidarity among community members to enable them to make the desired positive impact at all levels, especially in the midst of the unprecedented challenges that the world is witnessing today.

National Day is an occasion to renew determination to continue building on previous achievements and to make all efforts for assuring the advancement, support the development and comprehensive renaissance to achieve further progress, growth and prosperity for the people of Qatar. 

While the State of Qatar is marking today its National Day, it is also reviewing its tremendous achievements and successes that have contributed to strengthening the position of Qatar at the international level, presenting itself a model for peace, stability, comprehensive and sustainable development.

December 18 will remain the most important day in its history, as a symbol of confronting challenges and how cohesion of people and leadership turned challenges into opportunities. Qatar today is one of the most prosperous states not only in the region but also the world with the highest per capita income, thanks to the foundation laid on December 18, 1878.
