We are living in a new era of E-Governance where information and communication technologies have revolutionised multiple facets of human life in a variety of ways. Moving in line with this, countries, in all regions of the world, are continuing to make huge strides in their endeavors to boost E-Governance by providing public services online and accessible to all sans much struggle.

The achievements of Qatar in E-Governance and the charisma it has shown throughout the years by enhancing the service is praiseworthy. And, it’s not a wonder that Qatar ranked 51 among the 193 UN members by scoring high on E-Government Development Index, which measures countries’ use of information and communications technologies to deliver public services. The Index captures the scope and quality of online services, status of telecommunication infrastructure and existing human capacity.

In addition to this, Qatar ranked 67 in UN’s E-Participation index. Qatar was also ranked among the top 10 Asian economies on the Online Service Index of the E-Government Development Index in 2016.

Each passing year, Qatar showed its thirst for new technologies – in pace with international standards. The latest 5G network is one among the series of measures Qatar has taken to lift the nation to an utmost technologically advanced position, thanks to the noble administration under Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

A recent report adds colours to this, as over 300,000 visitors accessed Hukoomi, Qatar’s official E-Government portal, in September making it the highest monthly figure of 2018. More than 1.84 million visitors accessed Hukoomi portal during January-September period of the current year.

In April this year, Hukoomi was ranked first in web accessibility for Assistive Technology Center (Mada) out of 124 entities.

The portal witnessed a monthly rise of about 24 percent as 302,721 visitors accessed  Hukoomi portal in September this year, compared to 244,730 visitors in August 2018.

The portal received over 8.98 million page views during January- September period of the current year.  The consistent rise in the visitors and page views reflects that a growing number of people are now using Hukoomi services and that the awareness about the services is increasing among the residents. The portal includes more than 1,400 services, with more than 650 online services that can be completed online by individuals, visitors, businesses, and government entities.

It’s not enough, as Qatar has been continuously making efforts to advance its position to become a super power in E-Governance. The day Qatar to be at the top position in E-Governance is not very far under the wise Qatari leadership.
