One of the most important developments happened during DIMDEX 2018 was the establishment of Barzan Holdings – a company that aims at enhancing the military capabilities and investment in the defence industry of Qatar.
The company which was officially launched at the DIMDEX 2018 would also support research and development efforts in the field of military technology. The establishment of Barzan Holdings is a magnanimous achievement made by an ambitious nation under wise leadership of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The Chief Executive Officer of Barzan Holdings, Mohammed Mubarak Al Khater, said that Barzan Holding’s mission is focused on investing in defence and security companies, supporting research and development efforts, and participating in the strategic purchases of the armed forces. The company will also provide cooperation opportunities with international companies in the field of research and development, in order to facilitate the transfer of technology and the boosting of innovative technology in the defence and security fields.
Deriving its values values from the Qatar National Vision 2030, Barzan Holdings has set a roadmap for the sustainable future of country’s security and impeccable defence.
Barzan Holdings has been set up on an area of nearly 40,000 sqm at Qatar Science and Technology Park. The location near Education City was selected to provide technical facilities for the company’s work, as well as easy access for students to participate in research and development. No doubt, the research and development works to be carried out by Barzan Holdings will support overall culture of excellence in education and research for which Qatar is known around the world through numerous initiatives of Qatar Foundation and other research-oriented institutes of the country.
During the three days of Dimdex 2018, Barzan Holdings signed a total of 24 agreements with international partners, marking a new beginning in Qatar’s defence industry that will strengthen Qatar’s self-sufficiency in defence through building human and technological capital, and facilitating new research and development.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs and Chairman of Barzan Holdings, H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, stated that Barzan Holdings’ main objective is to meet Qatar’s long-term defence and security needs, and is strengthening Qatar’s future by setting a road map for Qatar’s military and security industries.
“The State of Qatar is seeking to acquire the most innovative technologies, cutting-edge practices and methods, and to train human capabilities to ensure self-sufficiency in defence,” H E the Minister added.
