The Qatar National Vision 2030 outlines four pillars to seek greater growth and prosperity for the country and its people. The QNV highlights human development as one of the pillars. It entails a holistic and modern health care infrastructure that caters to all and an educational system at par with the highest international standards, preparing Qatar’s students to take on the world’s challenges and become tomorrow’s innovators, entrepreneurs, artists, and professionals.

Accordingly, a world-class education system and equal opportunities will propel Qataris to increase their role in all sectors of their country’s economy. To actualise this goal, the government has invested in providing high-quality education and training programmes, incentives for Qataris to enter professional and management roles in business, health, and education sectors, and high-quality training opportunities for all citizens, no matter their interests. Also, the government has increased opportunities and vocational support for Qatari women.

In the last few weeks, the Shura Council has held serious discussions during its sessions on issues regarding Qatari job seekers, localising jobs and facilitating the private sector to provide employment, and the need to link education outputs to the needs of the labour market. The Economic and the Financial Affairs Committee of the Council yesterday, stressed the importance of the role of the private sector in supporting national efforts and partnership between the public and private sectors in absorbing job seekers and localising jobs.

These discussions show the Shura Council’s commitment to advancing the needs of eligible Qatari job seekers and, in essence, meeting the country’s labour mobility goals. Programmes like the Ministry of Finance’s ‘Tahfeez’ and QatarEnergy’s ‘Tawteen’ have been set up to strengthen and support the growth of Qatar’s private sector and homegrown companies. They will accelerate Qatar’s economic sustainability drive by diversifying from hydrocarbon dependence.

‘Tahfeez’ will consist of three pillars - Qatar In-Country Value (QICV), Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

‘Tawteen’ is based on three pillars, with the ambition to build a resilient and competitive energy sector in Qatar.

Besides, the Qatar Career Development Center will hold the third edition of the Career Guidance Stakeholders Platform today to address practical and strategic issues to device career guidance policies and strategies in Qatar.

It is also noteworthy that Qatar ranked second in the Arab world in the Youth Development Index 2020, according to The Commonwealth Association index.
