Hamad Port, one of the largest ports in the Middle East, keeps on accomplishing new feats, despite challenging situations created by COVID-19 pandemic.

The port has achieved a new milestone in workers’ safety. QTerminals Hamad Port operations have achieved 1 million man-hours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI), demonstrating its commitment to the welfare and safety of its employees and workers.

Another development was installation of three diesel generators. The installation of the three generators will allow CT2 to run autonomously if required when fully connected to the power distribution network.

Hamad Port, Qatar’s gateway to world trade, has led from the front in boosting Qatar maritime sector as it occupied the lion’s share in the overall port traffic.  Mwani Qatar has inked agreements with a number of local, regional and international players to strengthen Hamad Port’s status in the region.

Qatari ports have delivered a stellar performance in the first half of this year.  During the first six months of this year, Hamad Port, Ruwais Port and Doha Port have registered 102 percent increase in general cargo handling compared to the same period in last year.

During the first six months, 1,509 ships docked at Hamad Port, Doha Port and Ruwais Port, making it a busy period for Qatar’s maritime sector.

The ports handled 727,716 tonnes of general cargo in the first six months of this year, compared to 360,644 tonnes in the same period in 2019. The ports handled 32,779 units of vehicles and 305,504 livestock during the period, according to figures shared by Mwani Qatar on its official twitter account.

The ports received around 673,399 containers in the first half of 2019, which is around 2 percent more than what it was in the same period of the previous year.

The strong halfyearly performance by maritime sector follows all-round performance shown by the ports in the first quarter of this year. The ports handled 110,938 tonnes of building materials during the first quarter, reflecting 37 percent growth, compared to the same quarter last year.

Due to supportive legislations and policies Qatar has achieved leading position in global maritime transport sector. Qatar has ranked 12th globally in the quality of port infrastructure in the World Bank’s Competitiveness Report 2019, and it has jumped four places in the efficiency of seaport services index to become 15th globally.

Qatar’s maritime sector is expected achieve many other accomplishments due to proactive steps taken by the concerned authorities to boost goods traffic at the ports.
