Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani made a passionate appeal to world leaders to redouble their efforts to find just and long-lasting solutions to the conflicts affecting the world. H H the Amir in an address to the Jeddah Security and Development Summit highlighted the repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, disputes and conflicts affecting the Middle East region, especially the decades-old plight of the Palestinian people and urged the United States and other world powers to do their bits to settle the pressing issues.

At the beginning of the address itself, H H the Amir pointed to the core of the issue saying: “Everyone realises that there is no security or stability, neither development amid conflicts. Invoking the provisions of international law and the Charter of the United Nations by the parties to the conflicts saves their peoples and humanity as whole many victims and tragedies.”

The Amir meaningfully pointed out that crisis and war in any region affect not only the region, but the entire world, leaving direct and indirect victims adding that the war in Ukraine contributed to exacerbating an economic crisis that may lead to humanitarian disasters, especially in the case of food and crude oil importing developing countries.

During the Summit, which was attended by Gulf, Arab leaders and the President of the United States, H H the Amir said stressing the importance of Gulf relations and that of the Arabs in general with the US: “It is no secret to anyone the pivotal role of the United States of America in the Middle East and the World.”

Saying achieving stability in the Gulf is essential not only to it, but to the entire international community, the Amir appealed passionately to spare the Gulf region and the Middle East in general, the dangers of nuclear armament. H H the Amir stressed the need to resolve differences in the region through dialogue based on respect for the sovereignty of states.

H H the Amir reiterated Qatar’s stance on the vexing Palestinian issue to which the world powers very often turn a blind eye. The Amir aptly said: “The dangers looming over the Middle East region in light of the tense international situation require finding a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause, which occupies a central position among the peoples of our Arab and Islamic worlds and the forces of peace worldwide, because it is a just cause with heavy symbolic weight at the same time.” H H the Amir highlighted other issues affecting the region such as the Yemeni conflict, Syrian war, Libya, Iraq and Lebanon issues etc.

H H the Amir called the attention of world leaders to the challenges facing all of humanity, especially the issue of climate change.
