Qatar has always supported the aspirations of Syrian people. It has time and again said that it seeks to lend a helping hand in consultations on the future of Syria. The country is consistently engaged with all parties with respect to the situation in Syria along with regional and global parties to help the Syrian people in restoring the national unity and integrity.

For more than a decade, the people of Syria have sought to regain freedom with unequivocal aspirations since the day one in front of the international community so as to achieve dignity and territorial integrity.

Qatar is sanguine about the positive measures that have bolstered the national unity, which were observed over the past days. The steps taken by various parties in Syria are indicative of the fact that the Syrian people want a dignified life and seek peace and security.

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani participated in an expanded ministerial meeting on Syria in the Jordanian city of Aqaba on Saturday, with the participation from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Arab League, Turkiye, the USA, France, Germany, UK, European Commission, and the UN Special Envoy to Syria.

The meeting discussed ways to support a comprehensive political process led by the Syrians to achieve a transitional process in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254, which aims at meeting the aspirations of the Syrian people, ensuring the rebuilding of the Syrian state institutions, and preserving Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, security, stability, and the rights of all its citizens.

H E the Prime Minister stressed the need to ensure Syria’s unity and the peaceful transfer of power through a unifying political process based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254, in addition to enhancing efforts to protect civilians and countering terrorism.

Top diplomats from eight Arab League countries agreed at the meeting to support a peaceful transition process in Syria.

They said all political and social forces must be represented in the new Syrian government and warned against any ethnic, sectarian or religious discrimination and called for justice and equality for all citizens.

They agreed that the political process in Syria should be supported by the United Nations and the Arab League, in accordance with the principles of Security Council Resolution 2254, a resolution adopted in 2015 which set out a roadmap for a negotiated settlement.
