A visionary leader

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in an interview with French Magazine Le Point spoke on the global political situation, Qatar’s foreign policy, the energy sector and the GCC, among many other issues. The Amir highlighted the role of Qatar as a peacemaker and its mediation efforts to bring opposing parties to dialogue and find peaceful solutions.

H H the Amir’s interview brings to the fore the mature and balanced foreign policy of Qatar, and the wisdom of its leadership, who have done much for the welfare of its people, besides enhancing regional and international peace and the common good of people around the globe.  

An enlightened leader, Qatar under his stewardship has embarked on a new journey in economic, social, cultural and sports fields and has become a role model for growth and development. 

He has gained worldwide recognition for the economic management of Qatar, being the host of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and the efficient handling of COVID-19 pandemic.  

H H the Amir received many international accolades and recognition for his contributions for promoting friendship and cooperation between nations and peoples.

Speaking about Qatar's role in the energy sector, the Amir said that the country is a credible nation and that it is proud of the fact that it has always respected the agreements made over the past decades, including in the field of gas. Qatar has invested in its human resource and is developing schools and universities and invited US and European universities and colleges to open campuses in Qatar. He further said that the country has started diversifying its economy by identifying nine pillars, including technology, health, science and tourism, etc, and that Qatar's economy is resilient.

About migrant workers, the Amir said that the country realised that there was a problem with work on construction sites and Qatar took strong measures by enforcing strict rules and laws and punishes anyone who mistreats an employee and that it has opened doors to NGOs and cooperates as well. As for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, the Amir said all fans are welcome regardless of their backgrounds or cultures. About GCC the Amir said, "We are preparing for the future of this group of countries, which is essential for unlocking the potential of young people throughout the region."

Qatar has obtained high ranks in many international and regional indicators. It ranks high in capital flows, political and legislative reforms, gross domestic product per capita and very low unemployment rate.
