Qatar is fast completing its strategic projects from food security to national defence despite all regional circumstances and obstacles created by the neighbouring countries. The timely completion of various mega projects in Qatar exhibits resolve and wisdom of country’s leadership to take the State to new levels of progress and prosperity without being affected by external hostilities.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday inaugurated the Al Daayen Naval Base, the new building of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, in Semaisima area in northern Qatar.
Al Daayen Naval Base represents a quantum addition to the development and modernization march of the Ministry of Interior as part of its strategy for the next five years, especially with regard to enhancing maritime security and securing the coasts, borders, ports and territorial waters of the State.
The total area of the base is 639,800 square meters, while the built-up area is 143,164 square meters divided into 25 buildings. It includes all the advanced requirements for marine security, which will contribute to securing the maritime borders of the State and tightening the security control and protection of all its coasts by conducting maritime patrols to prevent infiltration and smuggling of prohibited materials and control maritime violations.
H E the Prime Minister and Interior Minister also inaugurated a new fleet of boats that were recently added to the Directorate. They include 48-meter long boat, which was rated as one of the best marine boats in the world, for surveillance and reconnaissance operations.
Director of Public Security Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi said that it represents a quantum leap in the field of Department’s work and will contribute to raising the performance level and ability to excel while meeting the requirements of modern maritime security. He stressed that more than 95% of the Ministry of Interior building projects has been completed and it strives to complete the remaining projects as well.
The world is not only witnessing but also recognizing these achievements made by Qatar. On Al Daayen Naval Base, the Director General of the Kuwait Coast Guard Brigadier General Mubarak Salman Al Amiri, has said that the inauguration of the base will provide greater support and safety for the region as a whole, from smugglers, infiltrators and maritime criminals.
US Naval Forces Central Command and US 5th Fleet Commander Vice Admiral James Malloy, praised the level of military and security relations and cooperation between the United States and the State of Qatar.
